2023 Show News
December 2023 The Show sponsors a tree at the St. Mary's Christmas Tree Festival. The committee thanks those members who came up with the ideas and decorated the tree. A photo of the Christmas Tree can be found in the "Trees" gallery page.
14th November 2023The AGM was held in the Pavilion Tea Room, Recreation Ground. Thanks to all of the non-committee members who came along to support the AGM. A summary of the meeting can be found on the AGM page.
September 2023 Another successful Show. Thanks to everyone who entered or visited the Show. Numbers were up this year which was great to see. It was particularly pleasing to see a large increase in the number of Children's entries, the largest number of entries for several years. Keep it up kids and make sure your parents enter in 2024 as well! The judges comments in all sections were very positive and the quality of the exhibits presented them with some difficulties in choosing 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
Photos of the exhibits can be found by clicking here and "best in section" winning exhibits can be found here.
At the start of prize giving, the Committee welcomed members of the late Henry "Bill" Dyke's family who attended the Show to present the cup named in his memory. His grandson Chris gave a brief introduction which gave and insight into Bill's life, then Bill's daughters presented the cup. After this, the remaining awards were kindly presented by Reverend Jo Mulliner and our thanks go out to her.
The Committee's thanks also go out to all of the non-committee members who helped out on the day and/or helped in setting up the Show. This help is essential to ensure the smooth running of the Show. And last but not least, thanks to all of the origanisations that sponsored the Show by advertising in the 2023 schedule and/or by donating prizes for the raffle. A list of those organisations can be found here.
August 2023 Thanks to everyone who submitted entries in Class 1 (one photo of a single planter or hanging basket submitted by email). The deadline has now passed and all entries can be found in the 2023 Class 1 gallery by clicking here. Winners will be announced on-line and at the Show on Show day.
August 2023 The Committee has extended the deadline for entries in Class 1 to midnight on Monday 28th August. The deadline for other classes remains the same. Please see the 2023 Show page for details. Anyone who has already submitted an entry is welcome to submit a replacement photo before the new deadline.
June 2023 Thanks to everyone who visited our stand at this year's carnival and to those who donated items for the plant sale. Also, thanks to Chris Beadle for building the "greenhouse in a wheelbarrow" that was part of the carnival procession. Photos of the "greenhouse" and our stand at the carnival can be found on the carnival gallery page.
Spring 2023 The Show Committee would like to thank Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, and in particular the support of Cllr Onnalee Cubitt, for the generous grant which has enabled them to purchase a gazebo, tables and “Sum Up” machines for use at the Old Basing Carnival in June and at the Village Show in September. This will enable us to take card payments for all your purchases of plants and other items, and it is hoped that this will increase the success of our events in the future.
April 2023 The 2023 Schedule is now available for download from the 2023 Show page where you can also find more information about the Show. Printed Schedules will be available from the Old Basing Village Shop and from committee members soon. You will also be able to pick up a copy from our stall at the 2023 Old Basing and Lychpit Carnival on 17th June. The Committee would like to thank all of the local organisations who have supported the Show by advertising in the schedule - a list of advertisers can be seen by clicking here.
